1937 Winch Truck

Winch tows and auto tows were the two primary methods of launching gliders from the 1930s through the 1950s. They are still used throughout the world. The National Soaring Museum's winch truck is a 1937 GMC Model T14B, built by the Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing Company of Pontiac Michigan. The winch was designed by E Paul duPont and built by Allen Carter of Wilmington Delaware. Dick duPont made this truck available for soaring events at Harris Hill, beginning in 1937.
