The window in the north wall of the chapel nearest the altar is devoted to the Baptism of our Lord. In the left panel, Jesus is shown standing in the waters of the Jordan River. In the right panel, John the Baptist is shown holding a seashell, symbolizing his role as The Baptizer.
Above Jesus, an angel holds a scroll with the words “Behold the lamb of God.” The verse is completed in the banner above John the Baptist with the words “which taketh away the sin of the world.” A descending dove, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, is shown in the medallion above Jesus. Agnus Dei, The Lamb of God, is shown in the medallion above John the Baptist.
Jesus, the descending dove, and the Lamb of God, all wear cruciform halos, indicating that they are part of the Holy Trinity.
In the lower panel on the left, Moses is found in the bulrushes by Pharaoh’s daughter. The lower panel on the right shows Moses parting the Red Sea. The wave and shell motif in the border, and the fountain of life depicted in the upper quatrefoil, are in keeping with the theme of Baptism.
The window is a memorial to James Alfred Malarkey and was installed in 1953.
