The St. Michael Fackler window in the south vestibule is a memorial to The Rev. St. Michael Fackler. This window also came from the 2nd church and was also a gift from the Trinity Women’s Guild. Fackler was a priest from the Diocese of Missouri who came west to Oregon, “for his health,” in 1847. While he occasionally held services in the area, he felt he lacked authority to establish any churches.
But it was Fackler, along with The Rev. William Richmond, that founded Trinity on May 18, 1851. Richmond had been sent to Oregon by the Board of Missions in New York and was surprised to discover Fackler was in the area. Fackler eventually wandered over to eastern Oregon and Idaho and established a number of churches along the way, including St. Michael’s Cathedral in Boise. The cathedral is actually named for Fackler, who was rector there for a time, not for St. Michael the Archangel as one would suppose.
