The pulpit is originally from the 1873 church at 6th and Oak. It was given on April 22, 1888, in memory of Dr. Robert Bruce Wilson, an early Portland physician and one of Trinity’s first vestrymen. He was married to Caroline Couch, the oldest daughter of Captain John Couch and Caroline Flanders Couch. Wilson Street in Northwest Portland is named for the good doctor.
The pulpit is decorated with Iota Eta Sigma, Chi Rho, and Maltese cross symbols framed in barbed quatrefoils, and carved acanthus leaf panels. Made of black walnut and originally stained a uniform color, the pulpit was painted in 1982 as part of the chancel remodel.
