The large organ at the back of the chancel was built by Rosales Organ Builders of Los Angeles and is considered one of the finest organs in the country. The organ, Rosales' Opus 11, contains 58 stops and over 4,000 pipes, the largest of which are 32' tall. Construction of the organ began in 1984 and was completed in 1987.
Major renovations to the chancel and nave were completed in 1983 in preparation for installing the new organ. The altar was removed from the back wall and brought forward, the chancel floor was raised and reinforced, and the chancel walls were angled to better project sound towards the nave.
Trinity symbols are carved into the pipe screens on either side of the center peak of the organ case:
On the left is an oval with the initials "P", "F", and "SS" around the outside and "D" in the center. Those initials are the first letters of the Latin words Patri, Fili, Spiritus Sanctus, and Deus, or, in English, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and God.
We call the symbol on the right the "Triple Trinity", as it incorporates three Trinity symbols into one. It is composed of a triangle surrounded by three interlinked circles that form a triquetra knot in the center.
