The two large brass menorahs on either side of the altar were given to Trinity in 1923 by Gertrude Pennoyer Russell, in memory of her father, the Hon. Sylvester Pennoyer. Pennoyer was governor of Oregon from 1887 to 1895 and then was immediately elected to one term as mayor of Portland in 1896. Pennoyer also served as Jr. Warden at Trinity in the 1860s and early 1870s. Pennoyer Street in Portland is named after him.
The menorahs honor the Jewish roots of our Christian tradition.
Attributed to Gorham and Company, the menorahs originally held electric lights but were converted to candles, probably in the 1980s.
