The needlepoint kneeler cushions at the front of the communion rail commemorate Trinity becoming the Cathedral of the Diocese of Oregon in November of 1993. The kneelers depict 160 wildflowers that grow from Oregon’s coastal plains, through the Columbia River Gorge, and up to the timberline of the Cascades. The design for the kneelers was created by Cornelia H. Stevens, a fiber artist and life-long Trinity parishioner. It took five years of research, sketching, and review to come up with the final design. Thirty-eight members of Martha’s Guild stitched the ten cushions that extend 46 feet along the communion rail. The stitching was done between 1990 and 1993 and took 2 ½ years to complete.
