The Marble of the Basilica
Many people ask about the marble they see in the Basilica. The floors are terrazzo with pink Tennessee marble borders and panels. The lower part of the walls are green Vermont marble. Most of the pillars in the church are made of steel pilings and enveloped with scagliola which is a decorative Italian plaster used to create the illusion of marble.
