At this small shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Jesus is depicted as revealing his heart to us. His heart is wrapped in a crown of thorns, burning with love for all souls. Jesus’ hand is raised in benediction, as if he is blessing those who visit him here. In the 1600’s Jesus revealed his heart in this fashion to a mystic indicating that his heart was burning with love for each one of us.
The statue on the right depicts St. Mary Magdaline holding a large cross. According to the four canonical gospels, St. Mary Magdaline was one of Jesus’ followers and a witness to his crucifixion and resurrection.
The statue on the left depicts St. Margaret Mary Alacoque of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was a French religious sister and mystic in the 17th century to whom Jesus revealed his sacred heart in a series of visions.
