Alicia Bailey "An Autobiography Book Two Variant 2"

Hi, I'm Alicia Bailey a studio artist based in Denver Metro working primarily in the book arts in my work traditional bookbinding techniques show space with sculptural forms that abandon or reinvent conventional book forms this challenging what a book can be while still honoring what a book does an autobiography book 2 variant two is from a series of work that explores the intersection of the vast rein of the American West, with the contained intimacy of my studio for the text, i used a writing prompt originally provided by BK Lauren to imagine myself as an object and write my own biography as that object in this case a pine con this variant is a 10 panel rigid page accordion structure that holds tax positioned around circular cut outs in each of the ridge panels. The cutouts increase as one progresses through the book slowly revealing the end cut of a dried pinecone specimen how did a bespoke drop spine box with wood tree walls another pinecone specimen rest under a cast acrylic platform in the tray base of the box.
