Hi! I'm Anna Kaye, a local artist, curator, and educator. You can find me teaching at the Denver Art Museum and Denver Botanic Gardens. For this exhibit, I created a charcoal drawing of a magnifying glass. This drawing presents a magnified view of the western landscape incorporating sixteen years of time-lapse footage from the Colorado Hayman fire zone in Pike National Forest. Vibrant flora among charred remnants underscore the regenerative capacity of Western landscapes, which have been defined by millenia of fire activity. This film sequence depicts a recovering ecosystem where flora completes its life cycle, rainfall revitalizes the dry earth, and glimpses of animals signal a return of biodiversity. Viewing our world through a lens of careful attention allows us to find hope, promoting environmental care and resilience in the face of changing climates. For this show, I’ve turned my charcoal projection drawing into a series of stills—now available as signed, archival prints. A portion of every purchase supports Restoring Colorado’s Forest Fund.
