Someone had stacked a series of fallen pine branches against the trunk of the mother tree. I had been reading Robert Frost’s poem “My November Guest” when I spotted this rather ordinary scene punctuated by the human act of stacking the branches in a systematic manner. I tried to picture the person who came before me to make this intervention.
