Kelly's Cup

One can find occasional campsites along the Appalachian Trail. This stone campfire ring was circled by two tree stumps that served as seating. I made a simple oil study based on a pencil sketch, and finally painted this piece. I imagined my late wife Kelly and me having a conversation here as she drank coffee from her favorite mug…one with an imprint of Van Gogh’s “Almond Blossom” painting.
