Study of a White Pine at Kerschners

Part of my hiking and sketching routine includes findng unusual trees. I like to take time to study textures and colors that occur naturally, and use those as references for studio paintings. This pine served as a model for several oils, and the tree has since fallen and begun its final smokeless decay.
