Meth addiction affects the brain and alters the consciousness, but it can also teach us. Samsara is the repeating cyce of birth, life, and death, characterized by the suffering we endure. Oftentimes this suffering is put on a person, not by the world, but by the person themselves. Addiction is one of the greatest teachers of this. It shows the suffering we bring upon ourselves. Meth usage has a major tie to neuroscience. Over time, scientists have discovered that meth causes large amounts of dopamine to dispense, while also preventing the dopamine from getting reabsorbed and recycled. Over time, this causes the dopamine receptors to fry, making habitual meth use the only way to produce and dispense dopamine. The cycle of addiction is a great way to analyze the constant cycle of suffering we put ourselves through.
