Beauty Standards: Payton Lower

The piece before you represents how beautiful but broken people can truly be, and while they might not all be physically pretty, everyone is beautiful in their own way. So what is beauty? Beauty is an art form that transcends the physical appearance of things. It can be a physical and emotional thing. Wabi-sabi is an art form that focuses on imperfections and how they are beautiful because they are different. The statue is pretty, but broken. It is pretty because it focuses on the imperfections, just like wabi-sabi. You see how beautiful the sculpture is, how colorful the flowers are, the gold highlighting the broken parts of her. There are so many layers that apply to beauty, such as the fun, the art form, and even the bad parts of it. Everyone is beautiful inside and out. It's okay to be different. Beauty isn't just about looks.
