African Fabrics: Theo Madueke

The movie Black Panther showcases different types of African designs. Each pattern tells a story. The clay artifact before you depicts a type of design known as Ukara, which is brought from the Ekpe people, and it illustrates images and gestural performance to communicate knowledge which is being guarded by society members. This relates to wabi-sabi because the patterns are all about imperfections, different shapes, drawings, and the material is made by dippng a cotton cloth several times into indigo to create a shade of dark blue.
