Rep. Steve Israel Recalls the Events of 9/11

On September 11, 2001, Rep. Steve Israel (D) (b. 1958) was on his way back from a breakfast with Senator Joe Lieberman when news began to spread that a commercial airplane had flown into one of the World Trade Center's towers. In the days that followed, Rep. Israel attended a number of meetings with FEMA - the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and took copious and meticulous handwritten notes.
