Jews and the March on Washington, 1963

Among the Jews who participated in the planning and program for the March on Washington in 1963 was Joachim Prinz, a rabbi who had escaped Nazi Germany and came to the United States soon after. Prinz, who was a close colleague and ally of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke at the march in the leadup to Dr. King's iconic "I Have a Dream" speech, imploring those in attendance to act, and that "the issue is silence." Also in attendance were a number of Jewish lawyers, who fought for Civil Rights through the courts and other legal methods.
