Judah P. Benjamin and American Jews and the Slave Trade

Judah P. Benjamin, pictured here on a Confederate banknote, served in the Confederate cabinet as Attorney General, Secretary of War, and then Secretary of State. Born in the Caribbean and raised in Charleston, he served before the war as a senator from Louisiana, where he owned a large slave plantation.
