The Founding of the Anti-Defamation League

The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith was founded in September 1913, after Jewish factory manager Leo Frank was wrongfully convicted of murder.

Established largely by affluent German Jews, the ADL typically did not pursue legal remedies.  Instead, the organization protested eruptions of antisemitism in everyday life – in newspapers, textbooks, theater, and cinema.
