OVERVIEW
Suzette Café & Bistro at 633 Bridgeway opened in 2023 under chef and owner Olivier Souvestre, bringing authentic French bistro cuisine to the Sausalito waterfront promenade in a beautifully renovated space with a marble countertop, bistro chairs, gold-rimmed mirrors, and a bay-facing terrace. Souvestre, a veteran of Sausalito’s French dining scene, offers a classic menu of French onion soup, steak frites, escargot, duck confit, and house-made viennoiserie alongside an all-French wine list of smaller producers and biodynamic Champagnes. Open seven days from breakfast through dinner, Suzette has quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest French dining experiences in Marin County.
HISTORY
The precise stretch of Bridgeway Promenade where Suzette stands was documented by a French naval officer nearly two centuries ago. In August 1827, Captain Auguste Duhaut-Cilly of the corvette Héros spent several days in Richardson Bay and wrote the first detailed foreign-language description of the Sausalito shoreline in his 1835 memoir 'Voyage autour du monde.' He noted the sheltered anchorage, the freshwater springs, and the Coast Miwok villages at the water's edge — the same waterfront where Suzette's terrace tables now face the Bay. The Miwok who watched the tricolor rise over Duhaut-Cilly's ship in 1827 could not have imagined that their shoreline would one day host a French bistro pouring Cognac-cask single malt.
