OVERVIEW

The Farley Bar at Cavallo Point Lodge, 601 Murray Circle, is set within the former U.S. Army Fort Baker — a National Historic Landmark — and is consistently recognized as one of the finest hotel bars in California, with direct Golden Gate Bridge views from its veranda over the original parade grounds. Opened in 2008 as part of the acclaimed Cavallo Point Lodge, the Farley Bar combines the Colonial Revival architecture of the original 1901–1915 Army buildings with a sophisticated cocktail program, premium spirits selection, and seasonal small plates menu. The combination of setting, history, and quality makes it one of the most extraordinary bar experiences in the Bay Area.

HISTORY

Fort Baker was established in 1897 as one of a network of harbor fortifications protecting the Golden Gate — alongside Fort Mason, Fort Miley, and Fort Cronkhite across the headlands. The Colonial Revival buildings constructed between 1901 and 1915 are now a National Historic Landmark. During both World Wars, Fort Baker served as a staging point for soldiers departing for the Pacific theater. Troops assembled on these same parade grounds — now Cavallo Point's lawns — and looked back at the Golden Gate as their transport ships moved out to sea. For many, it was their last view of America. The Farley Bar's veranda commands that same view today.
