OVERVIEW
Sushi Ran at 107 Caledonia Street has been rated one of the finest Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area for four consecutive decades since owner Yoshi Tome opened it in 1984. Zagat-rated and consistently acclaimed, the restaurant sources premium fish directly from Japan and offers one of Northern California’s most respected sake and omakase programs
HISTORY
The Japanese-American community's connection to Marin County is one of California's most poignant stories. Before World War II, Japanese-American families operated farms, fishing boats, and businesses throughout the Bay Area. Executive Order 9066 in 1942 forced them into internment camps; many returned to find their livelihoods gone. Those who rebuilt in Marin did so with extraordinary determination. The building at 107 Caledonia has housed restaurants since the postwar era, and Yoshi Tome's 1984 opening of Sushi Ran became part of that story of recovery — four decades of uncompromising craft honoring the community that came before it.
