In View from the Road, the view through the lens evokes the experience of driving past the Rocky Flats site, encountered in passing, at a distance, and framed by glass. From the outside, the illusion of a landscape breaks down, revealing scaffolding that supports an artificial surface. What appears ‘natural’ from one vantage point is revealed as constructed from another, highlighting the gap between appearance and material reality. The conflicting vantage points draw attention to the physical and institutional structures beneath the surface, and the unresolved industrial and radioactive legacy embedded in the land.
