In the digital era, our self-perception has evolved from mirrored reflections to the realm of selfies. Fuelled by smartphones, we document and share these self-portraits on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. But does this obsession border on narcissism?
This series of work aims to expose the superficiality behind the self-absorption as Yipang contemplates the motivations that drive us toward the limelight. Are the staged, curated lives we present online remotely authentic? It becomes a spectacle, hypnotising viewers who inadvertently contribute to the hype through likes and followers. This artwork reflects the inescapable social phenomenon we are entangled in.
