Reimagining Lantingxu

Presented in the form of the celebrated “Lantingxu”, this work highlights how societies and cultural practices have evolved over time. In “Reimagining Lantingxu”, Yipang subverted the masterpiece by replacing its content with lyrics from a pop song entitled ‘Imagine’ written by John Lennon. She also substituted the imperial seals from the past with those representing movers and shakers on today’s world stage. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, sportsman Cristiano Ronaldo or internet celebrity Pewdiepie are a new generation of the rich, famous and influential who are amassing millions of fan and supporters on a global scale. 

Travelling through time and space, the work is an exploration of the complex interplay between the East and West, ancient and contemporary, high and popular cultures.
