Fishing at Dermech

Fishing at Dermech is another painting that references Rigsby’s two-year stay in Tunisia. Located in ruins of Carthage, the Basilica of Dermech overlooks Punic Port, an ancient harbor in the Gulf of Tunis. This painting also features multiple red dots on the upper third of the painting. Several paintings in this exhibit include dots prominently, some even flowing off of the painting onto the walls. Two years after the 1977 Arvada show, Rigsby began his acclaimed “Dots” paintings, a series of watercolors that demonstrate a mastery of color theory with repeated dot images on colored backgrounds.
