The Beginning of Time

Genesis 1:3-5, 14  And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.... And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

Day follows the night, and even though no one really loves the darkness of night, they can still look beyond the darkness to the new day coming. Hope overcomes the darkness. You think of sunshine as being bright because you already recognize the darkness. Because of darkness, you can appreciate brightness.                        - SMM

About the painting: This painting describes the feminine nature of the moon that regulates the tides of the oceans, and the masculinity of the sun that gives life to the earth. The hands of God are also masculine and feminine. They initiate time. The hour glass represents the beginning of time. Inside it are the four seasons, trickling down. The evening precedes the day. Father Moon often talked about the importance of the evening.
