[Dentist office] Station 11: Jesus is nailed to the Cross

The act of nailing Jesus to the cross was an act of power over personhood, greed over goodness, hate over health.

Though we are making progress as a nation toward health care for all, there is much more to do. And many times, health coverage does not include dental coverage, even though lack of access to dental care can have serious health consequences related to the brain and other parts of the body. People with gum disease are more likely to have high blood pressure, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, and pneumonia. Although the science is still evolving about the connections between these things, what we do know is that gum disease can be controlled with dental care.

What will it take for us as a nation to prioritize and value all life? Until we recognize that healthcare is a human right, we continue to nail Jesus to the cross.
