[Red Doors] Station 1: Jesus is condemned to death

Several years ago, the United Methodist Church launched a campaign proclaiming the denomination to be one of “Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors.” While the openness and inclusiveness the slogan suggests is a true reflection of the message of Jesus, too often churches are places of closed hearts, closed minds and closed doors. The United Methodist Church, in spite of this slogan, continues to discriminate against LGBTQ persons, sometimes preaches exclusivism, and can fail to embrace all who come seeking Christ. When churches, which are understood to be the body of Christ, fail to truly practice open hearts, open minds, and open doors, Christ is condemned to death once more. When our doors are closed, the life offered through Christ is cut off.
