First Christian Church

Continue west on Padon St and turn north on Sixth St.  First Christian Church, located at 720 N. Sixth  St and often called FCC, is one of Longview’s oldest congregations and one of the city’s earliest faith communities. It was established in 1875 by twelve charter members, just two years after Gregg County was formed. As Longview grew during the railroad boom, the church helped shape the town’s moral and social life by offering stability, worship, and a strong sense of community in a fast growing frontier city.

The congregation first met in a schoolhouse before building a small frame church on land donated by the Texas and Pacific Railroad. Over time, as Longview expanded, the church grew as well, moving from modest beginnings to larger spaces and supporting ministries that served generations of families.

Today, First Christian Church remains an enduring presence in downtown Longview. The congregation celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2025, a milestone that reflects a century and a half of worship, service, and outreach. Its legacy is also recognized by the Texas Historical Commission with an official historical marker, reminding visitors that this church is not only a place of faith, but also a living part of Longview’s story.
