A Poem Titled: The Voice by Erin Francescan DeSales
“A little girl with a Paige Boy haircut
pigtails twirling like copper wires
finding her way, imaginary play every day
her world spinning like a top
Made her own story with her silly characters
their voices echoing in her mind
So deeply ticked in the chamber of her heart
like a song she couldn't forget
The voice
Holding her voice locked in her pigtails,
only bringing them down
when her words wanted to come out
Throughout the years, the pigtails got tight,
got loose, were completely taken down
Her hair flew with the wind, like a wild thing unleashed
The love for herself grew, freeing the voice stronger
Now a woman, a free spirit …
ice eyes remain, sharp as ever
seeing right through to the truth
Writing her story, soon to tell it
the words forming like crystals in her mind
share it on her own two feet, with a real audience
A long way from pigtails
she ends in and with her own voice .
