The path you are following used to be the section of a railroad that connected Westminster with the Denver Union Station.
In September 1911, a special Colorado and Southern train transported dignitaries and several hundred citizens to this site for the dedication ceremony of the new Standley Lake Dam.

Since 2012, this trail has been part of the Rocky Mountain Greenway project. It is a trail that will someday connect the Denver communities to the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains in Estes Park. When complete, the Rocky Mountain Greenway trial will form an 80-mile continuous trail passing through more than 10 municipal jurisdictions, 6 counties and 4 federal public lands.
