While you follow the dirt trail, look out for animal tracks. Coyotes, bobcats, deer, racoons and other small mammals have been seen in the park. Use your observation skills to see what you can find!
As you look for tacks, keep an eye out for scat, wild animal poop. Finding scat is another way to learn about what animals roam the park. Did you know that people who study wild animal poop are called scatologists? They learn how to identify animals and their behaviors by looking at their scat. Do you see small scat pellets from a rabbit or deer, dark colored scat with undigested berries or seeds from a raccoon or maybe tubular scat that contains a lot of hair from a coyote?
Don't forget to check out the interpretive sign along the trail as well to learn more about animal tracks and scat.
