The Farm Stand, Farmhouse, and Barn

We will start the tour at the black metal gate at the entrance to the property. On the South side of the street sits our farm stand. Here you can purchase Sister Julie's Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, jams, herbs, books, and more – all homegrown and homemade by Starcross. Make sure to stop by after the tour!

Enter the gate and please be sure to close it behind you so our friendly dogs, Tulee (brown) and Dazy (black), don't wander off.

To your right, you will see the farmhouse, built in 1902 from redwood cut and milled on the property. Many of the original nails were made in the old blacksmith shop, which occupied the building that now serves as our farm stand. At present, the farmhouse is used by Starcross guests seeking a place of quiet, and by volunteers, who often find Starcross through Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), a work-exchange program focused on sustainable living.

On the left of the driveway sits our square, modern barn, built in 2001 after the 1902 redwood barn across the street burned down. When it was constructed, we made sure to provide space in the eaves for the swallows that had made their homes in the burnt-down barn. This barn is where olives harvested from our fields are milled into olive oil. It also is the home to a shy barn cat named Tandoori.

The farmhouse and barn are not open for visitors at this time.
