The South Carolina Arts Commission owns 466 works of art by 288 artists; in a collection we call the State Art Collection. The collection began in 1967 and the last addition to the collection was added in 2020. The collection was created as a way to highlight the importance of visual art in the state. It’s a way to see South Carolina’s impact on the art world. The works seen downstairs is a small sampling of the SCAC collection. Though we couldn’t put EVERYTHING on view, we do think this is an accurate representation of the work that was collected between 1967 - 2000.
