Since Cliffe was very young, his first love was always literature, and it remains a deep passion of his. He has collected many books over the years and initially started with books on poetry and a few novels that he liked. Books were always important to him as works of creativity, provoking his imagination and inspiring his mind, but also because he believes they represent foundational human artifacts. Often times, books of great artistry and human insight embody a writer's lifetime of study, creativity, and their take on the world. Books are an egalitarian means of representing and sharing human knowledge and experience, which further inspires Killam.
Cliffe decided to start a Don Quixote book collection because he viewed Miguel Cervantes as a contributor of the most important novel in human history, which has been declared by many critics and authors to be the first "modern novel." Don Quixote was published as two separate books in Spanish, the first in 1605 and the second in 1615, which is published today as one book.
Through this exhibit, he is sharing his passion for literature and Don Quixote with the community that he loves and hopes you enjoy the images in this exhibit as we celebrate Cervantes' masterpiece. Last, Cliffe encourages you to read the book, and read it again and again over the years.
