Works by Tsogo Mijid

My name is Tsogo Mijid. I was born and raised in the heart of the vast steppes and luminous mountains of Mongolia. My most prominent migratory experience came in 1999 when I immigrated to the United States with my family from Mongolia. My artistic process derives from a balance of intuitive and concept-driven methods of experimental creation. My artwork integrates much of my cultural and spiritual roots, embracing an abstract expressionist flare. In my paintings, I seek to create visual tension through automatic and intended mark-making between realism and expression. By way of juxtaposing figurative elements, traditional motifs, and contemporary icons with natural materials-I aim to create a visual language connecting the old with the new to depict the mental states of suffocation and alienation due to urbanization, overcrowding, and high social inequalities in today's world.
Narrative of my artworks :
"Father and Son": This piece can be viewed from any angle, much like the dualityof yin and yang. I am a reflection of my father, a continuation of his spirit.

"Black Queen": Inspired by ancient Mongolian queens’ hair ornaments and headdresses, this painting portrays nomadic women as figures who, though scorched by life’s hardships, carry a beauty that endures through ashes.

"Lord of Divinity": Rooted in the tradition of building sacred stone cairns (ovoo) to honor mountain spirits, this work reflects the idea that we live alongside unseen worlds—always in parallel, always in connection.
