Bonampak Cholo Poem

Bonampak cholo standing tall

He controls it all

 

Defiance in his stance

He will advance

 

His resistance is vital

Persistence is his title

 

His efforts are prioritized

He is never marginalized

 

He is never distracted

But you might be sidetracked

 

He has a distinct fashion

Which is his passion

 

With his sleeves rolled up

He is ready to show up

 

Through his sunglasses

He sees those who harass us

 

Looking forward with his gaze

His arms will not be raised

 

Mayan hieroglyphics tell the lore

Of a story the cholo will explore

 

In Bonampak there was a war

But the cholo wants no more

 

A Mayan priest at his side

With an offering of cultural pride

 

His tattoo of Lupe liberty

Is not in jeopardy

 

He is introducing

A lowrider cruising

 

His headband remembers a death

We wait to see who is left

 

He stands tall for us all

Cultural pride will not fall
