Child’s Ladder-Back Chair, 1840-1860

Ladder-back chairs were popular in England by the 17th century, and were commonly used in the United States during its infancy. By the mid-1700s, furniture makers were crafting upscale versions of this simple design, using walnut instead of sycamore or maple woods, or adding intricate ornamentation.
