This is the cloister, the hub of everyday life, to where all important rooms have access. Every Cistercian monastery was built to the same floor plan, and a blindfold monk from any abbey would be able to find his way around.
Beside the passage to the left of the chapter house there is a small rectangular recess in the wall. Here there was a wax noticeboard, inscribed with the daily duties for each of the brothers.
