8: Abbot's house

There is so little left of this building that it’s tricky to sort out where it was. The tall pillar of masonry shows us the site of the two storey structure. Look up to see the remains of one of the very few fireplaces permitted inside the monastery, for the enjoyment of just the abbot and his guests.
