The Poet ~ Thomas Moore was born on 28 May 1779 and passed away on 25 February 1852. As well as studying law, Moore was an acclaimed Irish writer, poet, and lyricist celebrated for his "Irish Melodies", some of which are still popular today. He was a friend of Lord Byron and was the recipient of his memoirs - which he chose to burn after Byron's death, presumably to protect his friend. Moore was engaged in Irish politics and his satirical verse and nationalist writings championed Catholic emancipation and critiqued British rule, while resisting overt party alignment.
