The Poet ~ John Dryden was born on 19 August 1631 and passed away on 12 May 1700. He was an English poet who in 1668 was appointed England’s first Poet Laureate. This was decided by the Monarch and although there were no specific duties, Laureates were expected to write verse for significant national occasions. Dryden wrote almost 30 tragedies, comedies and dramatic operas.
Our Reader ~ Rob Wilton served the Milton community for almost 50 years as a dedicated dentist, known for his professionalism, warmth, and contribution to the
community. Rob played a significant role in safeguarding local health
services. He was instrumental in the effort to retain rest home and respite
care in Milton and became a founding member of the Milton Community Health
Trust, serving on the Board for 14 years. He Chaired the Heartland
Otago/Southland Life Education Trust for 10 years, was involved in the
Anglican Church and was member of Milton Rotary Club for 48 years, serving as District Governor. Rob led trips for the Otago Youth Adventure Trust/Milton Rotary Tramping Club for 36 years. Now enjoying retirement, Rob’s common‑sense advocacy, fairness, and unwavering support leaves an enduring influence on health and wellbeing in Milton.
