Susan and I knew each other through mutual friends before I painted her portrait. She is whip smart, generous of heart, and a great conversationalist. She is one of several sitters, I believe all women, who just had such a great volume of hair I was excited to paint their portrait, particularly as their hair filled out the background of the pizza box frame more than most other portrait sitters. I also love pairing blue against orange (or red), thus the blue background for this one.
