Cattle Crossing

This is a gated structure that allows a local rancher to move his cattle from one side of the Trailway to his property on the other side. The Cross Timbers ecoregion is rich cattle country. In 1855, Oliver Loving was the first to move his cattle herd west of Weatherford, TX. Soon after, Charles Goodnight also raised cattle in the area. After the Civil War, these men partnered and created the famous Goodnight-Loving Cattle Trail, which traversed the land from this area of Texas up to Denver, CO and beyond.
