Sunshine Lake and Path

To the north you can see Sunshine Lake. The railroad built Sunshine Lake along Town Creek in 1929. Water from the lake was used for filling and cooling the steam engines on this very railroad corridor. Today, Sunshine Lake is part of the city of Weatherford’s Cartwright Park. You can take this little path to get a closer look at Sunshine Lake and the many water birds that call Texas home. In winter months, gulls, cormorants, grebes and a variety of ducks can be seen on the lake.  Herons, Kingfishers and Red-shouldered Hawks are present year round.
