128 Brookside/Thanisch Carriage Factory

This building was constructed as the Albert Thanisch Carriage Factory in 1895-96. The original façade would have had three carriage doors at the street level. It is not unusual to find a carriage maker in this industrial area, where the need for carriages would have been quite high. At one point in the early 20th century, an airplane manufacturer was working in this building. The image for this stop is of the Whittemore - Hamm L-2. This plane was built here with the idea the US Army might want to buy some but they did not. So it was sold instead to The Boston Post newspaper.

In 2019 the artists who had taken over this space were removed and it has since been redeveloped into condominiums.
