Santa Elena - Charles Fort

Charles fort was a short-lived French Huguenot outpost established in 1562 on Parris Island, South Carolina, led by Jean Ribaut to secure land for France and provide refuge from religious persecution. The settlement failed within 11 months due to severe food shortages, a devastating fire, and internal conflict, including the murder of their commander.
